Orlando Science Center
Bring out your inner scientist by visiting the Orlando Science Center. This is the perfect place for kids and adults alike to both have fun and an educational experience at the same time. This center is the largest of its kind in the Southeast, with 4 stories and 10 exhibit halls all dedicated to various aspects of science. It also includes the fantastic Dr. Phillips Cinedome, a huge theater that seats over 300, showing large-format movies, laser light and planetarium shows.
One of the best exhibit halls is BodyZone, which features a huge, walk-through model of the human body, as well as exhibits on skeletons and the workings of the nose. Measure Me allows visitors to find out about all aspect of their own body, and how they are unique. Learn about the work of engineers and architects at Science City: Physics Park, and NatureWorks is a huge, 7000 square foot exhibit that displays Florida's diverse ecosystems.
Bring out your creative side in Techworks: Imaginary Landscapes where visitors can create their own, unique landscape with an amazing computer program. The world of special effects can be explored in Showbiz Science, and healthy living teaches all about nutrition, fitness and how the body works.
All of the above exhibits are on permanent display at the Orlando Science Center, but traveling exhibitions also make their home here throughout the year, so be sure to check with the Science Center to see what their newest exhibit is.
Another fun part of the Science Center is the Inventors Workshop. These interactive workshops take place three times daily, and allow visitors to work through the steps it takes to create a successful invention.
Also be sure to visit the Crosby Observatory, located at the top of the Science Center. This observatory houses Florida's largest publicly accessible refractor telescope. This area is open on Friday and Saturday nights, when visitors can view the four moons of Jupiter, the rings of Saturn, and distant galaxies and nebulas.
