Kennedy Space Center Orlando

Old Rockets, Kennedy Space Center, Orlando
The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is an attraction definitely worth visiting while in the Orlando area. Situated 47 miles east of Orlando, the complex is home to some of the most high-tech space travel equipment on the planet, providing visitors with a fascinating and educational experience.

The Center was established in 1958, when the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) started Project Mercury and began launching spaceships at Cape Canaveral. All of this was to compete with the Soviets' successful space program, and since then the United States' program has been flourishing.

In order to get out to the Space Center, you'll need to have a car. The Center is located on Merritt Island, off the eastern side of the Intracoastal Waterway. Cape Canaveral, where the first launches of the US Space Program took place, is separated from the Kennedy Space Center by the Banana River.

Website www.kennedyspacecenter.com The best way to see the Center is to take a narrated bus tour. There are two different tours that can be taken here, one that goes to Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, and the other passing through NASA's office and assembly buildings, as well as launch facilities and landing sites. You can choose to see these facilities at your own pace instead of taking the bus tour, and this might be the best option for families so kids can have longer to gawk over the fun stuff.

The main focus of the Center is the amazing Gallery of Spaceflight, which draws in 2 million people a year. This gallery is packed with real spacecraft and full-scale models, letting you get up close and personal with these amazing vessels. Also be sure to check out Titusville, the main gateway to the Kennedy Space Center which also serves as a wildlife refuge, as well as hosting the Astronauts Hall of Fame. This area displays tons of interesting facts and details about the lives of astronauts, including a G-force trainer and a shuttle-landing simulator ride. The Imax Theatre is another must-see, with its fabulous film, The Dream is Alive, showing hourly.
